Yes, testing instantiation of the object via the moniker is going to work. It's a reasonable strategy, better than spelunking around in the registry. It delivers the right result, all the time.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
