When is the White iPhone4 going to be released?

On Friday, July 23rd, Apple announced that everyone waiting for the white iPhone 4, including your cousins wife, will need to wait "until later in 2010". This is the second delay in the shipping of the white iPhone 4. Apple says it has encountered manufacturing difficulties with the white model of the latest version of Apple's highly successful smartphone whose black version was introduced on June 14th, 2010.

Certain speculators are wondering if Apple might be waiting to distribute the white iPhone 4 while they use it as a tester for designing and rolling out solutions to the issues surrounding the antenna reception and perhaps other operating system upgrades. Others simply note that Apple is likely waiting until market conditions improve and for a resurgence in consumer interest. White iPhone 4's release date has not been announced yet by Apple, rumors had it that the delays maybe due to the antenna problems experienced by it's predecessor the black iPhone 4. Analyst have been speculating, that the mobile device might be released after September 30, 2010, the deadline by which buyers would have availed of the free bumper case. It’s actually good to see Apple not jumping the gun on this, and making sure manufacturing is entirely up to spec.

There hasn't been a release date given by Apple for the White iPhone. The press statement just said that the white models "have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected". The company just says that it will be available "later this year", whatever that means.

I'm not sure why a white iPhone would be so much harder to make than a black iPhone, but apparently it is. Some people are speculating that Apple is deliberately pushing back the release date so that they can try to resolve the antenna issue by testing their fix on the white iPhones. Maybe that's true, maybe not.

I don't know. But, the explanation that Apple has given so far has certainly been less than satisfactory.

Although there is no definite release date, I do like the idea of it coming in another color. Blackberry phones are also started to trend toward offering different colored models. Many people I know have purchased covers or cases for their phones to give them a different look.

I can't help but assume that if iPhone were to come in several other colors there would be a higher demand then there already is. With a few flashy colors like green or orange, users wouldn't have to invest in a bulky case. Not only that, but there are times when the case only makes matters worse in the case of protecting the phone from cosmetic damage.

If a small piece of dirt or sand gets in the the space between the case and the phone, it could cause scratches.

It seems that even Apple don't know an exact date yet. They are currently having problems with the antenna on the iPhone and until this situation is resolved they are not planning to release the white version until the end of the year. The problem arises when the iPhone is held by the lower left corner, the reception becomes reduced, in a bad signal area it is even worse.

Apple doesn't want to spend any more than the $175 million they already have to because of the free case offer to help overcome this problem. There is more demand for iPhones than there is supply at present and there have been suggestions that Apple should make the iphone available in other colors as well to offset the cost of the free cases. It rather looks as if your cousins wife may be in for a long wait to get a white iphone.

According to Apple just last month, the expected release date was to be by the end of July. Obviously that date has come and went and more information is finally being released. Apple has now put out a press release saying the White iPhone 4 would be released "later this year".

Their reasonings center around challenges in the manufacturing department. The latest news says that the new phone will be available in any color the consumer could possibly want. Yet, Apple is still balking at releasing the colored version of the iPhone due to a concern in the wearability of the colored paint.

Looks like the excuses are outweighing the projections right now.
