I most emphatically do not agree that God sends anyone to hell because they, for some reason best known to God, were deceived and mesmerized by a spiritual Pied Piper. Such a conclusion would contradict the biblical definition of God as love. Will God punish false prophets?
Again, if followers of a false prophet can be sincerely deceived, so too can a false prophet. Having said that, I also believe, because there are ample biblical references to this reality, there are false prophets who know better. In that case, God will judge them -- but again, I absolutely resist the idea of an eternal torment in hell.
I see many biblical objections to eternal torment in hell -- and, on the other hand, much that is religious tradition. I absolutely reject the idea that God punishes ignorance -- if that is the case, then, as his children, his love is predicated on us passing tests of academically imparted knowledge. What if we are unable, for any number of reasons, to pass the test?
Will we be eternally punished because we failed to master biblical truth and doctrine? I think not. Jesus told the diligent, intelligent (in terms of the contents of the Old Testament) Jews of his day, "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think by them you possess eternal life.
These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life" (John 5:39-40). There is always hope with our loving heavenly Father -- that's the gospel as I understand it. When the disciples asked Jesus how many times they "must" forgive someone, he told them endlessly -- forever -- and then gave them the parable of the unmerciful servant (Matthew 18:21-35).
God never gives up on us. When Jesus died and rose from the dead, he overcame death and the grave. God's love transcends all physical limitations we or religious influences and teachings attempt to place on it -- we don't know how exactly his love is exhibited, in every way, but we do know that his love is the most powerful force in all the universe.
Believe in it. Believe in him.
There are people who have suffered more gruesome deaths than crucifixion, so I don't think that was it. I think Jesus' real agony was suffering the penalties for all the sins in the world at once. Jesus went to hell after he died but I don't believe he went to suffer.
You know how 1 Peter 3:19 says that Christ "preached to those in prison?" I think that's what he was doing, teaching the gospel to those who died without it. Because there are a LOT of people who lived and died without ever hearing about Jesus Christ.
I believe that God is our father and he loves all of us, even if we don't love him back. Can you imagine wanting to damn your own children to hell for eternity? I believe that instead of seeing things in terms of good/bad and heaven/hell, God mostly works on a "good, better, best" system, sending almost everyone to a heavenly mansion which they deserve.
I can't really do your question justice on a Yahoo answers forum... but I'm Mormon (shorthand for member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and feel that my faith addresses the questions you're asking. You can see more at mormon.org for more information if you are interested.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
