Social Security is supposed to be paid out of a separate fund, and I would agree to returning to that formula. But we need to eliminate the income cap on SS taxes. If a millionaire paid the same *percentage* in SS tax that someone who makes $150K pays, that would fund it forever.
Changes do need to be made to medicare/medicaid. Perhaps Bush shouldn't have authorized the Part D prescription plan without paying for it somehow, but that's hind-sight. Oops, did I mention "Bush"?
But changes also need to be made in the actual cost of medical services, and of course conservatives would fight any government regulations on that. So don't ask Liberals. Ask Conservatives.
What are they willing to do to intervene in the private sector to bring those costs down? Why did my wife's surgery to fix a broken bone in her arm cost 65 THOUSAND DOLLARS? Oops!
Can't interfere with the free market, can we? Put your mouth where the money is.
Simple. Make corporations and the rich pay the taxes they're already supposed to pay, close loopholes and be stricter on tax haven rules. Not a rise.
Enforcement. Hey look guys - that's called a compromise. Not used to seeing those these days are we?
I'd love to see the rich contribute more, but that'd annoy a lot of conservatives. However, if they're serious about cutting the deficit they can't ignore this BIG source of revenue. Tax evasion costs billions, maybe even trillions of dollars every year.
Plus the US pays more per person for healthcare than many other nations, and yet (on average, not at the top) has worse results. Sounds like someone's been fixing the market to benefit providers and insurance "groups" (read racketeers) *Alright, trillions was a bit of an exaggeration. However there have been studies in the UK where ONE company (vodaphone) has avoided £4.8 billion ($7.72 billion) through a "deal" with the revenue - that adds up.
Plus I didn't say tax them - I said ENFORCE the tax. This is already law. They are breaking it.
Aren't you interested in their criminality?
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
