I think of friendly people and great food When I landed at the Jackson Mississippi airport, there "Home of the Deep South". I think Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana all share the title for representing some of the best of the south. Southern people--at least in rural areas--are friendly to all.

I really enjoyed eating the great favorites of the south and I still fix jambalaya, greens, grits, chicken fried steak, and other dishes even though I don't live in the south any longer. Alabama While technically Hawaii is the state in the US that’s farthest south, when I think of the south I think of the “Deep South” states of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. I think that’s where you’ll find most evidence of the stereotypically “southern” culture. Most of Florida is farther south than the “Deep South” states, but Florida never really had that typically southern culture and is now comprised of many northern transplants.
Parts of Georgia and North Carolina, particularly the cities, would no longer be recognized as “southern. ” But in any of the rural areas of any of the states below the Mason-Dixon line, you will see rural poverty and scenes that haven’t changed much in 50 years.
