Microsoft has pretty much stopped selling XP. There are DVD's available on eBay, but they are being sold without an activation code. I want an activation code along with a DVD.
My dad uses a very old laptop with minimal configuration. I am sure he would not like to switch to linux or any other OS, when the learning curve for XP has been so steep for him. The current XP version on his COMPAQ laptop is failing Genuine Windows validation.
I don't have the original bill of sale, so I do not have any proof of purchase. The stickers have become unglued over a period of time. The laptop is over 5 years old.
I could buy a new laptop with Windows 7, if that is the only option available. Asked by whocares000 22 months ago Similar questions: buy Windows XP activation key Computers > Software.

You are correct... Per mandate from Microsoft several months ago, they have stopped pressing discs for Windows XP and have told the OEMs such as Dell, Microsoft, etc. That they are no longer allowed to sell machines with only Windows XP (though they can sell Windows Vista or Windows 7 Business installations with downgrades to Windows XP, which means that licenses for both the newer Windows version and Windows XP come with the machine but what is installed is Windows XP Professional). However, the "mom and pop" shops (also known as indepenent resellers) are not under such strict moratoria. Thus, if you want to get a copy, you can do so at such a store.
Through my business of Best Deal Computers, I can still get copies of Windows XP and will keep on selling them (as well as machines with Windows XP) until I can no longer get my hands on such legal licenses. Vista and 7 are both too problematic for me to put my good business reputation on the line. If you are in my part of the world (the Kansas City/Topeka area of northeastern Kansas) or do not have a local resource from which you can order the software, let me know and I will gladly get it for you.

The System Builder versions tend to be OEM copies, which means that they don't come in the pretty retail boxes but, instead, in shrinkwrap plastic and a piece of cardboard to give more stiffness and protection the the CD.As such, they tend to be cheaper. One more thing to be aware of: you need the full version, not the upgrade.
The upgrade requires that a former version of Windows (such as Windows 98 or Windows 2000) be installed on the machine before it will install..
Registered your original purchase You may get the replacement cheaper if you actually registered your original purchase with Microsoft they will then issue you a new key for a small administrative charge once you verify your registration details with them, as then you don't need to buy a new license only a key, if it is not registered though you won't be able to prove you already have a license so are back to buying a new one. You may find even if they will sell a single license on it's own that it costs almost as much as actually buying a new retail version, which in that case would be your best option as it would give you a spare cd as well (which is very useful as we all know how easy it is to damage or loose a cd and they charge a pretty packet for a replacement when bought on its own without the license as a boxed retail set). 1 I had an issue where I needed to re-install XP on one of my work computers but didn't have the disc. I went to a Mom-and-Pop computer store (anything mainstream like Best Buy is not going to help you here) and they sold me an OEM disc and license key. I don't know if that is legal, strictly speaking, but that is what they did.
I have my key and disc now as well as a functional version of XP. Good luck.

2 Just in case you do have the original Windows discs and need the key, this link leads to ways to find the activation key in the computer.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
