Try one of the various gun "blue books. " Model 58s usually don't command high prices unless they are one of the more limited models. On the bottom of the receiver, in front of the loading port and behind the bbl is where one would find stampings if it is a "special model."
Such as SA,SC,TX,TB. 3" guns and slug guns are also fairly rare. Skeet and trap bbls without the receiver stampings are standard guns with the barrels added Go to Remington's website and do a seach on model 58s.
This will give you an idea of what grades and varients are out there If you have one of the stamped models, I would be interested.
From the very limited description and the picture, the best that I can figure out is that this shotgun is one of two possibilities; the first is that it could be a Stevens Model 58, made between 1949 and 1968, it is the most likely candidate as it fits the time line. The other possibility is a Marlin Model 55-10, although this is a real outside guess at it was only introduced in the early 1970’s and I don’t think that a manufacturer would put their newest model out for generic sale. I mention this one because these are the only two Bolt Action Shotguns made during the period that could be close to yours.
So my appraisal will be for a Stevens Model 58. For your shotgun I would place the class as “Goodâ€, because it has been used and has had a good long life. The only real drawback with these firearms is that with so many made and so many still around, the values are extremely low, as an example, I regularly see single shot break action 12 gauge shotguns in the papers and at pawn shops for as little as $20.00 and they appear to be in good condition.
I have seen a few of the Bolt Shotguns and the values are a bit higher.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
