Where did the whole concept of 'Santa Claus' originate from?

Saint Nicholas of Myra is the Christian origin of Sinterklaas, the Dutch legendary figure of Santa Claus. He was very religious and gave money and gifts to the poor women so that they wouldn't have to turn to prostitution.

The modern image of Santa Claus was created by the Coca Cola company in their advertising. Christmas celebrations are ancient but more modern ideas come from Germany and Victorian England and Saint Nicholas.
