I assume you're trying to get back to factory defaults on your's, but the recovery partition is hosed. There are some variables involved, but if he has the EXACT model laptop (not series, but exact model) you can probably create recovery Thumb Drive/DVD's on his, and use on yours. This would accomplish the recovery.
If both PC's had an OEM Version of Windows 8.1 installed (and I'm sure they are both OEM), this will not work. Why? Because Microsoft keeps records on their Servers, and they will know what you two are trying to do, and it is illegal.
Just order REPLACEMENT RECOVERY DVDs ($$) directly from ASUS.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
