The personal clothing goes into the property room. Provided clothing goes into bins that slide under the bed. The facility has a property room which keeps all personal effects.
Prisoners can’t have access to their own belongings for security reasons. Prisoners are provided with a jumpsuit, shorts, and shower shoes at the county level or with a jumpsuit or casual uniform (sweats or shorts, tee shirts) at the state DOC level. All clothing the prisoner has must fit into their personal translucent bin that goes under their bed.
The only personal belongings they can keep at my facility is a plain white tee shirt and socks. The women are also allowed to keep "granny panties" and bras without underwires if they were wearing them when taken into custody. Clothing that meets facility standards is available for purchase on commissary.
But, those still have to fit in the bin. Any excess is in violation of the rules and is confiscated and placed in the property room with their other belongings. The cells have hooks for hanging towels and washcloths to dry.
There is a small shelf for personal hygiene items. There is a small desktop and a metal stool attached to the floor. The toilet and sink are one unit and clearly visible from the window in the door.
The bunk is attached to the wall by brackets. If the prisoners were given closets or shelves they would have more hiding places for contraband, and they would have more material with which to make weapons. Also, everything must be visible for safety reasons.
If one area is hard to observe, that's where suicidal inmates will try to hang themselves.
I can tell you about NJ prisions it may vary in other states In NJ depending on the security level of the prision they have either foot lockers or stand up lockers. Some have both. If the imate is a considered a risk to him/her self they may be in cells that have very nothing but a sink and toilet.
Imates have TVs radios and can decorated their cells if they pay for the items. They recieve job training in various areas, can study for a GED and earn a wage in a prision job.
They don't Prisoners have no lockers/closets and are not allowed to keep their clothes. They wear prison clothes, that are picked up regularly, and washed centrally. So, no keeping your clothes somewhere in your cell.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
