We are a family of six living in rural NH. The property taxes here are killing us! When I moved here in 1990 my property tax was around $2K, now it is well over $6K.
Our income is lower now than it was then and I have four young children to raise as well. I need to find a place to live where the property taxes are lower. I would like to buy a house or a piece of land where I could build a house, but I can't afford much.
So... I am trying to find out where in the USA is the least expensive place to buy a "decent" house (a relatively safe and healthy place to raise four young children) or a piece of land to build on (one without tons of unreasonable building codes and regulations). I would like to be able to build a home, investing my time , money and sweat, and not be taxed to death for doing so. I would prefer to live in a rural area, but not more than 20-40 miles from "civilization", so my home-educated children can still have access to cultural and educational opportunities.

Where in the USA can I find a "decent" house or buildable land for the least amount of money and low You’ll really have to talk to a bank or mortgage broker for this - it’s probably better to try work with a smaller lender, who will be more willing to listen to your circumstances and decide how much impact that should have on the rate you are offered. A large national bank is probably not going to care about what caused your low credit score. It would be much better to put more money down to get a lower interest rate - you are wasting money if you don’t.
You could always take a HELOC a few years down the road to replace the money you borrowed from your inheritance. Florida housing in trouble Despite the fact that he doesn’t work for one of the name-brand Wall Street investment houses—or maybe because he doesn’t—Dick Bove, an analyst at Punk Ziegel & Co. , is one of my favorite bank analysts. He writes research like a good journalist—speaking his mind, pulling no punches. In a report released today on Florida housing, Bove predicts that the “pressure on (Florida) housing is likely to be sizable” due to “a series of major threats.
” Chief among them: Hurricanes, which Boves belives will have a large ripple effect on housing…Bove says he's been hearing lately from bankers in Florida that yet more insurance companies are going to pull out of Florida in coming months (insurers can't pull out for 60 to 90 days after a major storm, so they can't leave so soon after Wilma, but they're already plotting their escape). Even in aprts of Florida where there haven't been any hurricanes, Bove hears that insurers have already begun to cancel some policies and increase rates. Bove also wonders whether immigration--which has been the driver behind Florida' real estate boom--will wane if new residents get spooked by the never-ending hurricane season.
What's more, Bove notes that communities hit hard by the storms are going to have to raise revenue to pay for repairs to the infrastructure that aren't covered by federal programs. How will they do it? Since there's no state income tax in Florida, they'll do it by raising property taxes, he predicts.
Bove also thinks many homeowners are going to have to take a serious look at building a "safe room" onto their house--one that can withstand the impact of a Category Five storm. So more costs there. Oh, and lest I forgot, higher interest rates for people with home equity loans.

1 Its funny, the number of people I hear of who say the same thing. "I need to move someplace cheaper, with lower taxes. These high taxes are killing me."
Yeah, I know. Taxes hurt everywhere. But think it out.
You would sell your existing home (possibly taking a loss) and pay a real estate commission to sell the home. All of this to move to a new state, incurring costs to buy a new home, or even more costs to build one. (Have you checked out the price of lumber lately?) All of this to save a thousand or two a year on your taxes.
Of course, anyplace that is that cheap will be found by the rest of the people also looking for cheap taxes. These people also have kids, they want roads and infrastructure just like you do, your kids need new schools, etc., so the taxes in your new home end up going up too.

2 if you are worried about property taxes, some states (usually less populated then NH) have a lower tax base such as Montanahttp://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/topic/40.html .

LOLThis is a quote from me:"every one of us should have the right to our land if we so choose to live such a life, building for our future, raising our children, and establishing our rightful ownership. However, that is not the way anymore. No one can just look into those beautiful hills of rolling land like they used to and have a dream. It is all money, money, money.
I am sorry this happened to you in your current home. Such a darn shame our country is running people, families, children, out of their own homes. No wonder "the people" are grabbing onto anything that comes along to run the place. I have watched the taxes and homes around here go from $25,000 to $400,000 in 10 years and these are country homes built in the 50's.
Many of them any ways. Most are need of repair. What a joke!
.
Good luck to you. I have been looking to other countries as it is just too high here. I am not sure the American Dream is for most people, or American's for that matter.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
