Cardiff is at the southern end of the Taf Trail - good for walking and runs through to Brecon Beacons. There is pleasant walking round Cardiff Bay, but if you fancy a longer walk go from Cardiff Bay across the barage to Penarth and walk along the coast line - it takes about half a day. If you fancy staying closer to home, there's lots to see around the city with its castle and museums.
