This is a stand alone, no tub. Which would look the 'nicest'? This shower is going to be more 'rectangle' shape than 'square' with a bench to sit on also.
The bathroom itself is on the small size, longer than wide with a small window in the opposite wall from the shower, but not sure of the exact dimensions off hand. We are also having a 'pocket door' to go into the b. Room as the room is next too our living room and right next to a sliding glass door to go outside.
Yes, it wasn't my choice to put it there! If you were to put in a new bathroom with limited space what would you do? I chose no bath tub as I don't want the combination tub/shower and we won't have the space for both separately.
I have always had fiberglass so I am 'swaying' toward the tile. I am thinking it would look a lot nicer and more 'modern'. I don't really think fiberglass is that easy to clean or keep up, any more than tile would be.

Tile is gorgeous I love the look of ceramic and glass tiles. It is just beautiful and rich looking. Definitely much better looking than fiberglass.
Now, here's the rub -- literally -- the grout can be a pain in the neck. Mold and mildew love grout. I have one bathroom with the fiberglass and one with the tiles.
Fiberglass is easier to clean but nothing looks as fabulous as ceramic tiles. You can mix some glass or other textured tiles (metallic, etc) with the ceramic to get any look you want. Tiles are the way to go for beauty.
I would go for tiles. Bubbe's Recommendations Caring for your Ceramic Tile Amazon List Price: $9.95 This might help.
No comparison to me, I'd go fiberglass all the way. I presently have a tiled standup shower in one of our bathrooms. I dislike it intensely.
I have been thinking about it just these past few days and saying, "I will never have one again. " It is tiled throughout and it is surrounded by glass. It is the biggest pain in the butt to clean. It also has a bench which adds to the cleanup with the angles and extra grout.
We had fiberglass before in my former home in both upstair bathrooms. It was a tub combination and it was the easiest thing to clean compared to the tile. With the tile, there are grooves everywhere.
Mildew forms at the drop of a hat. I have a spray cleaner I have used on fiberglass that simply takes the film right off. I use Dow Bathroom Cleaner with the foaming bubbles.
Green top on can. It works great. I have tried most everything else but even this does not work on my tiled shower!
Film is easy to take off when compared with the many separate tiles and grout areas where mildew can form. This is my opinion but you can’t imagine how strongly I feel about it! Best Wishes!

We are in the process of doing just what you are doing and we went with tile. Because of various ailments I was having a lot of trouble getting in and out of the tub shower so we ended up ripping the old bathroom (it was an add-on to an old house) completely down and starting from scratch. When they finish we will have a 6X6 walk-in shower with a bench built in so that I can sit and shower for as long as I wish.
They don’t make what we wanted in fiberglass so we didn’t have a choice but I would have wanted tile anyway. We found a tile that is supposed to be very easy to clean because of the way it’s made but of course I can’t tell you if that’s true or not just yet. We got ours at Lowe’s but I dare say that you could go to any home improvement center and inquire about easy to clean tile and they would be able to help you.
We also went to Home Depot and those people were just about rude so you might want to avoid them. Lowe’s can be very slow but they are very helpful. Sources: my life .
A tiled shower..... I have had both. I know tile can be a pain to clean, but it doesn’t get ruined as easy as fiberglass. I have tile in the bathroom, dinning room and kitchen.
You can use a scrub brush on tile, but not on fiberglass. Bleach too is good for both, if you like using it (I LOVE IT). Again I have mentioned this often, the more often you clean something, the easier it is to clean.
And YES tile looks so much nicer. Fiberglass tends to look cheap.
In my opinion, I find the fiberglass to be much easier to keep clean. With tile, you have grout; with grout, you have a pain in the butt! We have one of those scrubbing bubbles things that hang and we push the button after every shower..

Is it a good idea to have a stand alone shower in a bath room along with a separate bath tub, if you don't want to deal.
