Which is the preferred magazine for the enthusiastic laymen; Science Illustrated or Popular Science? Sci American?

I don't know Science Illustrated. I find Popular Science to be more "popular" than "science". Scientific American is highly recommended.

I actually recommend even more highly Science News, which is the one most focused on actual science and less about high-tech speculation and other "frontiers of science" stuff. And since it's bi-weekly it's much closer to current events than Scientific American. (They used to be weekly, which was better, but they moved slightly towards the Scientific American direction.) .

I go with New Scientist and The Economist if you want straight. I used to like Scientific American, but it got too "cute. "I don't know Science News.

Got to check it out. Com.

Pop Sci has become entirely too gadget and DIY oriented.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
