Norwegian Bokmål is based off of Danish. Despite having the smallest population I would learn Norwegian because Norwegians are the most proficient at understanding both Danish and Swedish. Likewise, Danish and Swedish people understand Norwegian better than they understand Danish and Swedish respectively.
This is also true for me, I find that I often have to speak English with a Swedish person to really understand what they're saying. Skånsk (spoken in southern part of Sweden) however is easier to understand as it traditionally has been classed as an Eastern Danish dialect (Bornholm, Skåne, Halland, Blekinge) So yeah my suggestion is Norwegian.
Personally, I'm learning Swedish for fun, but learning Norwegian would give you the best of all worlds there. It sounds more like Swedish, but its words are closer to Danish.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
