Costco and "The Medicine Shoppe" are highly rated This particular article mentioned "The Medicine Shoppe" as a highly regarded chain, but I do know that Costco is highly favored in many circules due especially to their often substantially lower prices for medication (especially generics). For Costco, you don't need a membership to purchase pharmaceuticals, but obviously, you do need a Costco chain location nearby. Mom and Pops Are TopsPublished October, 2003Mom and Pops Are Tops.So said Consumer Reports magazine after researching prices at 130 pharmacies and surveying 32,000 readers about their experiences at thousands of drugstores.
Independent pharmacies provide the best overall value, including better service and lower prices than the major drug chains, beating them by what Consumer Reports called "an eye-popping margin. "The survey included independent, chain and online drugstores, as well as pharmacies within supermarkets and mass merchants such as Target and Wal-Mart. Notable results from the survey include:* Drug and supermarket chains were far more likely to be out of a particular medication than independents and took longer to get out-of-stock medications.
If independent pharmacies were out of stock, they were able to get the product within one day 80% of the time. Other types of pharmacies were able to restock within a day 55-60% of the time. * The one chain that nearly equaled the ratings of independent stores was the Medicine Shoppe.
Notably, this company differs from other chains in that its approximately 1000 outlets are independently-owned, not corporate-run outlets. * At the top-rated supermarket pharmacy, Publix, most workers are stockholders. * Drug chains charged the highest prices for prescription drugs, online vendors and mass merchants the lowest.
(But CR warns that "online pharmacies not affiliated with stores can be risky. ")* Supermarket pharmacies beat drug chains in overall satisfaction. Even most mass merchants out-performed drugstore chains other than the Medicine Shoppe.
Only Wal-Mart -- the worst-rated mass merchant in the survey for overall value -- failed to beat the satisfaction scores of most drug chains. The article also notes the trend of independent drugstores making a comeback after a long downward trend. Apparently more people are seeing through the corporate hype and recognizing the superior value that local, independently-owned businesses of all types usually offer.
In 2002, the Maine Department of Human Services researched the prices of 15 common prescription drugs at 106 independent and chain pharmacies statewide. The 10 lowest-priced pharmacies (based on the combined cost of all drugs) all were locally-owned drugstores. Results from a similar 2003 survey will be published by November of 2003.
Studies by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs and a statewide study in New York by Senior Action Council also have affirmed lower pricing of drugs at independent pharmacies. Sources: http://reclaimdemocracy.org/independent_business/independent_drugstores_beat_chains.html .
This not a rant. It is lengthy due to the amount of information I must provide to explain why Costco is not as good as Walgreens and why WalMart is the best choice of these 3. I just spent 2 days working with Costco to fill a med that I have used them to get for 2 years but which now they do not have in stock. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be certain you can a prescription filled.
Here is why. Each Costco warehouse has an independent pharmacy. They do not have a shared inventory database - they do have a central customer data base which keeps you records - but they cannot find a med in any other warehouse without phoning each one separately.
That usually takes a day at least so I ended up calling the 8 in the Phoenix metro area. I found the last of these meds in my area and not once pharmacy could work with me to insure my meds were available ahead of time. So, mail order, called them, the have their own custoemr database and have no idea what you have fiolled in the past without spending time to log onto that system and if they have been trained find your history. Mail order requires a paper prescription to be mailed (for my meds other can be faxed).
2 days to get it there - you cannot call in advance to insure the med is in stock....so they spend 2-3 days determining if they have or can quickly get your meds. You find out after those additional 2 days, if you need a replacement med you must return to your doctor( indefinite time to get an appintment, get the new prescription, mail it, wait again for those 4 days...total delay is now 4 + indeterminate doctor revisit _ 4 days - then you might get it filled or not, if not you go through the same 4+ cycle again. So you have to call all local pharmacies yourself, take a risk with mail order, and even then you might not get it filled.
Any time critical med is therefore not insured to be filled. Local pharmacies carry and maintain their own inventory so 1 warehouse may have a med, others not. If one has it they DO NOT ship it from warehouse to warehouse, their inventory system will not permit it, so there is no way around these delays.
Walgreens will find the med and have it shipped to your local pharmacy or to your home free, overnight at their expense. WalMart will do the same, they will get the med shipped to your local warehouse guaranteed overnight, or to your home the say way. Guaranteed.
Walmart maintains a large inventory and will email you ahead of time if any of your meds have an availability problem....and a suggested replacement, this allows you to work with you doctor ahead of time, WalMart and Walgreens will both work with the doctor over the phone and hold your meds, again Costco will not period. Walmart is at least as cheap as Costco, Walgreens is almost always more expensive. After speaking with 9 people at Costco, customer service, pharamcy staff, mail order fulfillment, order and purchasing meds - everyone said that if these problems were serious for me than go to Walmart.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
