I would have to say that all of these Hub categories would most likely get me into reading the related Hub. The reason being is that all of these categories in some way or another inflluences our everyday life. And all them are also found somewhere within the society and culture that we are part of.

Hope this helps answer your question somewhat.

Parrster: These days I would be drawn to "Religion and philosophy" because I am learning that philosophy is not necessarily the ruminations of idle, disengaged dilettantes and that religion transcends a physical structure (church, synagogue, mosque, temple, etc. ). Religion and philosophy can blend with daily life satisfactorily. Painful as the path may be, the unexamined life may not be worth living, as Socrates clearly pointed out (and even died for that belief).

Far more is encompassed by religion and philosophy than I ever thought possible in my teens. :-).

In my 20s, I would have been drawn to "Travel and Places. " I still love travel but I learn so much that stays with me long afterwards from religion and philosophy (for example, your hub, "Did God foresee this").

Actually a great title that catches my eye will draw me in.

I'd say that Gender and Relationships hubs would be a good long term traffic generator if they're done well. Same with parenting or health.

News and politics is virtually worthless if it's about current events - but if you broaden the spectrum to include lots of researched history, then you might have something.

I'm interested in what we need to do to live more efficiently and harmoniously on Earth.

Which is why Science would also be a leading choice, though it's not one you've offered.

I enjoy a variety of hubs on travel and other subjects if they are well laid out with photos . I read your comment professionalhubs and went to read your hubs however as you havent written one yet will have to check later- if you catch my attention here but have boring subjects I won't read them as so many really interesting hubs to spend time on over a coffee!

Usually those related to international relations, poetry and travel. However, since joining hubpages 2 weeks ago I now read those subjects I usually don't give that much attention to: IT, blogging, SEO, domains, among other things. I only heard about Google Adsense when I joined hubpages and after having 2 disapproved applications due to 'under construction and domain ownership' issues, I now read hubs related to this category too.

For me, my interest in categories always include that covers my weak areas.

Religion and philosophy, family and parenting, and health.

They are the three most important issues in my life.

I think topic is not so important. Its all about how we associate our self with other guys on this site. If we are successful at making close relationships or friendship with other guys we will always catch their attraction even our topic is not so interesting.

To be honest I never really browse hubs via category. What grabs my attention is a captivating title or a good picture always catches my eye.

It depends according to your readers and how well you write. But I think politics and Social issues will get more attention, because everyone is affected by the topic.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
