Cooking, totally! We both like my cooking better than that of most restaurants. That may sound snobby, but I know what we like and so that's what I do!
My husband is also lovely about experiments -- I mean if there is a failure, we always have peanut butter and jelly.... So far haven't had to resort to that, although I have discovered that Alaskan cod, no matter what you do to is, is basically rubber! Wasn't too bad chopped up for a chowder, though! I do love cooking and baking.It's fun to experiment and fun to get the flavors exactly right.
We will occasionally grab a fast food hamburger and sometimes, several times a year maybe, go out to eat someplace. Usually that is when friends invite us. But for the most part, home cooking is the preference.
Cooking. Health is a major issue, but that was just kind of the starting point for me. I realize health is not the issue you're interested in, but just as a way of explaining why I got started in this habit I'll touch on it for a moment.
I'm disabled. Partly that makes eating at home important because I can't afford to go out. Partly because I can't drive so it's not convenient to go out too much... and partly because my health needs have my diet pretty limited.
But here's the NOT health related thing that got me really hooked on cooking after the health reasons got me started - the feeling of accomplishment. That's partly because accomplishing things in general is tough for me... but once I started doing things like grinding my own flour from whole grains to bake multigrain whole grain bread, cooking healthy fish and chicken, etc. , I felt so empowered. Stupid worthless disabled me was able to turn grain into bread - the whole process!
And not just breads but other things. So now I'm making my own nut milks and soy milks, juicing my own juices, using the leftover pulps from both of these tasks in breads, etc., making homemade pasta with my own home-ground whole grain flour... It just cascades on, I learn one new task and then try a new one - it's so rewarding feeling, and fun! I make my own bagels!
Onion bagels, cinnamon-raisin bagels, from my fresh ground flour! I've gotten cheaply off ebay various tools, and some new cheap from Amazon... next task - pierogies, various pasta... gonna try all kinds of raviolis, in homemade pastas like spinach pasta... There are so many amazing ravioli recipes out there - pumpkin ravioli! So that's it for me.

Cooking - because I love to do it and have the time I generally cook because it is something I enjoy GREATLY (my first questions and answers here were ALL about cooking). I usually have time to cook, I've built it into my schedule so that I'll be able to do something I really enjoy every day. I'd much rather eat my own food.
Not, mind you, that I'm the world's best chef or anything. I'm really, really not. But I can make the food the way I like it and can't help but feel like everything just tastes better when you make it yourself.
If I'm feeling like something I haven't made, or can't make (easily), I'll pick up take out at a restaurant. I do this with sushi a fair amount. Fast food is generally a last resort or a spur of the moment craving..
I love a good restaurant I am a good cook, and I cook at home as much as I can. I often use better ingredients than restaurants do, and I'm generally as good a cook (or better) than they are, especially since I don't have to serve 200 people a night. But I still adore going to restaurants.
I love not cleaning up. I love having food just materialize in front of me. Because it's a treat, I get to forget about how many calories and how much fat is in all that food.It's expensive, but since portions are often larger than I can eat it makes a good lunch the next day.
Great restaurants actually serve smaller portions, since they're aiming for quality rather than trying to make me feel like I got a good value with quantity, and I love that just as much. That's good restaurants, mind you. I rarely go out to your basic chain restaurants (Olive Garden, Friday's, etc. ) because the food is only mediocre.
I'd rather spend a bit more for really good food if I'm going to spend that much money. I eat fast food when necessary, because I'm hungry and busy, but would rather cook or sit down to a restaurant meal than eat fast food any day of the week.
We go to restaurants when we don't cook at home. We have a few inexpensive restaurants that we choose from when we want a quick, easy, inexpensive meal. We prefer to sit down at a table and be waited on.
Fast food isn’t really much less expensive than sitting down in a low-cost restaurant. The cost for two would probably be $14 to get a meal from fast food, not just a snack, and the restaurant costs about $18.00. Neither of us likes fried food and a restaurant gives us more choices as well.
Most days of the week we cook at home. With just the two of us we make simple meals and it's just more convenient to eat in and much less fuss. I don't think it is significantly cheaper to eat in.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
