When I have to use it, I use pure neem oil. Just make sure to rinse well before actually eating it. You can also dust it with diatomaceous earth (food-grade).
It washes away in the rain though. What is attacking your lettuce? When I use the neem, I water the plants to knock the bugs off and then I spray the soil around the plants with neem.It coats the bugs without getting my butterflies and honeybees.
I rarely even put it ON the plants. Except when the dang caterpillars decided to munch my broccoli! They got sprayed, lol.
Isadora @Dr Haddox thanks for your input, I have no clue as to what is attacking my lettuce, but all the leaves have little white circles on them, and they are becoming wrinkled and rough instead of smooth and firm, as they used to be in their healthy form. I had never heard of neem oil before, I just looked it up in the internet and I don't even know where to begin looking for it! I might try pepper in the mean time.
There are organic pesticides that contain pepper as an active component. It you use this source as a pesticide be sure to allow time for the pepper to dissipate somewhat, or flush the lettuce with water before handling with your hands (pepper can burn your skin), and do not get it in your eyes. Also, I concur with IsadoraPandora, in the use of neem.
Neem is a wonderful oil that does not need t be used full strength for this purpose. Ask Isadora to share with you, her method for mixing up the Neem oil and water spray. She is an excellent teacher from what I notice from reading her hubs.
Good luck growing your lettuce.Dr. Haddox.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
