Which pet has more variety of personalities: dogs or cats?

I was having a chat with a friend and they think cats have a wider/diverse range of personalities than dogs. Is that true? Asked by Anchorman 54 months ago Similar questions: pet variety personalities dogs cats Pets.

No, I don't think so Cats do have more personalities than non-cat-lovers will give them credit for, but the changes are more subtle. Some cats are cranky, others as affectionate as slobbering dogs. But in general, I find that the range of personalities is like the range of bodies.

Dogs have far more physical variation than house cats do. (Other cat species, ranging up to lions and tigers, are different). Dogs go from chihuahuas to dobermans, whereas cats will fit into a range of maybe 6 to 25 pounds.

Dog breeds are bred for many different reasons. Some herd sheep; some guard houses; others are just companions. The range of dog personalities is broader because we've put dogs to a more broad range of uses, but most house cats are simply companion animals.

Some incidentally keep down vermin, but that's more a matter of opportunity than breeding. Cats are far from all the same. I had two cats, litter mates, who were very different from each other and had all sorts of different personality quirks.

But I find that these are relatively small differences when compared to the range of the viciousness of a guard dog and the coziness of a lapdog.

Cats, hands down! I think cats have more personalities. I have both (cats and dog) and I think that cats are way more intelligent and "vocal" (able to communicate what they want).

Not just making noise, but the way they communicate their moods, how their moods change, etc. Believe me, when I was young I used to hate cats (I thought they were all aloof) until I owned a couple. They are really loving, possessive, and let you know when they've pissed you off. I haven't owned a dog in a long time, and the current puppy I have is only 4 months old (have had her for about 2 months) and her life seems pretty simple....completely opposite of my cats :) .

Cats I truly believe cats have more varied personalities then dogs. I have 3 cats of my own and believe me they all very different personality wise. I have had all 3 sience they were babies and they act nothing alike.

One is horribly mean, one is sweet and lovable, and the other is fiercly independant.

DOGS! Cats have hardly any personality once they are out of the kitchen stage. They act like you should be grateful when they give you any attention!

Dogs are charming, eager to please, happy go lucky, energetic (generally), and definitely more compassionate animals. Give me a dog any day!.

Cats do :) Well the brat cat is out of the room so I get to answer this one instead of him I do feel that cats have more variety of personalities than dogs. Louie and Jenny show me their various types of personalities every day. They are by nature quite independent. So most of the day even if one is laying down on the back of the couch right near my head it is a "don’t bother me I am doing something" type of feel to it, usually followed by a quick whipping of the tail.

Yet when they decide they want to be petted or loved they are quick to show affection, and quick to claim my lap and begin to purr. And they love to explore and run around and hide under the parked cars, and they will show their independence by refusing to come back inside, till after I close the door and a minute or two after that they will be at the door waiting patiently for me to get esp and go back and open it. And Louie has a special game he wants to play where he chases a shoestring up and down the stairs and he will pick it up and bring it to me so I can understand that it is playtime.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
