The assumption is that similar stars shine with the same brightness. So it is only necessary to compute the distance of one star and the rest can have their distance computed by seeing how bright they are compared to the standard candle --- and using the inverse square law. The difficulty is being sure that the stars you compare are of the same type.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
