Who are the top five running backs in college football in 2010?

There are a great number of running backs that could be listed in this top five, even with many of the 2009 players now in the National Football League. Here are my top five, in no particular order. Dion Lewis of the Pittsburgh Panthers Football | Pitt Panthers ran for 1,799 yards on 325 attempts, scored 17 touchdowns and had a long run of 85 yards.

Those statistics point to durability with all those attempts, and explosiveness with a long run of 85 yards. Mark Ingram Jr, son of former NFL player Mark Ingram Sr won the 2009 Heisman Trophy as a sophomore for the Alabama Crimson Tide Football | Alabama Crimson Tide. He rain for 1,658 yards on 271 attempts with 17 touchdowns.

Ryan Williams of Virginia Tech Hokies Football | Virginia Tech ran for 1,655 yards and 21 touchdowns as a freshman. He was one of the best last year and should continue to be a great collegiate player and I think has a chance at the Heisman Trophy. He plays in Conference USA and might be a little less known than some of the other great backs, but I would watch him as a potential national leader in rushing next season. Thirty-one other players ran for more yards last season, but Royster, who had 1,169 yards on just 205 attempts, should have a greater workload with a new quarterback since Daryll Clark graduated.
