Jimspop replied to post #2: 4 Alan Ladd was my homeboy. After "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", I never saw John Wayne in a role I could love as much.
I'm putting Katherine Hepburn fifth merely because Rooster Cogoburn and the Lady featured her and she improves any movie. I'm putting Gene Hackman sixth because he is more believable an actor (Unforgiven) in his inherent cockiness than others. "Others" are Henry Fonda seventh (always seemed a bit stiff, tho), and James Stewart eighth (the slightly lost act does well when he's the one who did it in the "Thin Man" movies but not so much in a Western movie, tho he's still a very good actor.) Gary Cooper is ninth on the efforts of High Noon alone, and Jay Silverheels is tenth for opening that door so few walked thru.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
