I think... I think the government is in charge(whoever they may be) .

As Speaker of the House, Pelosi has the control of the location of where all this spending starts. THAT is power. Really, all the President does is sign the spending bill or not.

Thus, Pelosi's power is actual. Obama's power is more influential. He definitely has more fame + acceptance with the people (who vote for Pelosi and every other Congressman every two years), so he can do an end run 'round Congress and go to the electorate and have them pester their Congressmen/women to vote for this or that program.

That works often enough, too. But Constitutionally, the President has a lot of power that all hinges on Congress agreeing to pay for it. Thus, the Vietnam War ended when Congress voted to stop paying for it.

The Iraq War will likely end the same way, in both cases, in spite of whatever the President might want.

1 Nobody is in charge. But the President gets the blame. Lee Iacocca said a long time ago that the presidency does not have enough authority to justify the responsibility.

And it doesn't pay enough.

2 The bottom line is Congress, who the president has to answer to! They make the laws, allow the wars, etc. The president can do nothing with out Congress approval on any issue!

3 Washington DC is a cesspool of special interest money. Follow the money.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
