1 newbie1057116, regarding your answer "Australian Test cricket match umpire Daryl John Harper: 63 Tests, 133 ODIs":Ok, but I'm not really interested in what wikipedia has to say about him. Why do *you* think he is the most impartial? .
2 I really like Simon Taufel now. He so no nonsense. And his decisions are right....a lot.
I think he was also voted as Umpire of the year by the players themselves.
Here is his profile from the International Cricket Council: icc-cricket.com/db/PLAYERS/AUS/H/HARPER_..."Played District cricket for Teachers College and East Torrens (Adelaide, SA) Umpiring first-class debut: 1987-88 Joined National Umpires panel: 1993-94 Umpiring Record:Test Debut: Australia v England at Perth, 2nd Test, 1998/99 Latest Test: South Africa v India at Cape Town - Jan 2-6, 2007 Test Appearances: 49 ODI Debut: New Zealand v South Africa at Perth, World Series, 1993/94 Latest ODI: South Africa v Zimbabwe at Port Elizabeth, 3rd ODI, 2004/05"Here is a bit of his history from Wikipedia: He was rewarded for impressive performances when, in November 1998, he was appointed to stand in his first test match - the 2nd Ashes Test at the WACA alongside umpire Venkat. He also stood in the exciting 4th test of that Ashes series at the MCG. He was subsequently promoted to the National Grid Panel of International Umpires, and began to stand in test matches away from Australia as the neutral umpire. In 2002 the ICC intoduced a policy of two neutral umpires standing in each test match, and one neutral & one home umpire in ODIs.
The neutral umpires were to be chosen from a new ICC Elite umpire panel, which would be made up of the top 8 - 10 umpires from around the world. Harper had the honour of being included in the original line up for this panel, being chosen in preference to fellow Australians Simon Taufel and Darrell Hair. He is one of just three umpires to have maintained their place on that panel, the others being Steve Bucknor and Rudi Koertzen, which is a testament to his umpiring ability.
He also had the honour of umpiring the opening match of the 2003 Cricket World Cup in South Africa, and went on to stand in one of the semi-finals. Another landmark in his career was his 100th ODI, the match between Zimbabwe and New Zealand at Harare on August 31st 2005.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
