The 1st link gives you a good historical account of the early Native American peoples. It then describes periods of French control, British control, and finally the American takeover. The 2nd link from the Indiana storical Society gives you a good account of the displacement of the Native Americans by European settlers in the 19th Century.

The 3rd link is Wikipedia which as always gives a decent overview. USA viewed the land as part of the Northwest Territory (the Territory Northwest of the River Ohio 1787-1803).
