Rampant commercialism and the marketing machine we live in a society where stuff is the answer to everything. Having stuff, getting stuff, getting more stuff, storing stuff, selling stuff, buying stuff. Never has this been more apparent to me when in the wake of my recent divorce, I am moving back to my mother's house, and she asks me if I want her to buy me a new dresser for my room.

I say, well ma? Why would I need one? Well, it's your old dresser from when you were young.

Does it have enough space? Yes it does. Well I just thought for starting your new life, and since you're depressed, you might like a new dresser.

Now tell me if you can, how does having a new dresser signifigantly improve my quality of life? And then I thought about it, and much like other people, my mothers favored form of therapy is retail therapy. We are taught that if we are sad, blue, lonely, bored, feeling inadequate, nothing will improve our lot in life more than buying something, anything, just not the competitor's something.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
