No Wikipedia - I hate it too! This is one of those questions I've debated answering since I don't know your politics, so I'm going to assume you're impartial. FAVORITE - HARRY TRUMAN - "Give 'em Hell Harry" did just that.
Now, granted he made some mistakes, but don't they all? Even JFK who who was vying for this honor made more than his share of mistakes, so no one is perfect. What did Truman do?
Well, let's see.....he authorized the dropping of the atomic bomb on roshima and Nagasaki - not exactly something to be proud of perhaps, but think about how many American lives were spared when those bombs were dropped. It took a lot of guts to do that knowing that there would be repercussions from people saying it shouldn't have been done, but Harry was his own man and didn't really care - he had the American people and the servicemen to think about and couldn't be concerned about how popular he was or wasn't because of that act. And, he had a little plaque on his desk that said "The Buck Stops Here."
He wasn't one to pass on the blame for screwing up - he was willing to admit his mistakes when he made them. Korea may have been his biggest mistake - actually, firing General Douglas MacArthur in relationship to Korea - MacArthur wanted to go all out - Truman was more concerned with what was basically a police action. Know one knows what might have happened if Truman had let MacArthur invade - we might not still have troops there, then again, we might.
I would think that would have to be one of his bigger mistakes. And, Truman assumed the leadership of this country after the death of one of the country's most popular Presidents - Franklin Roosevelt. Considering the circumstances, I think he performed admirably. In addition, he oversaw the country through the post-World War II years, setting us on a road to peace and prosperity which continued through the Eisenhower years (and Ike was a lot better President than he gets credit for being).
Technological advances which are still affecting us today came to the fore during the Truman years and had he not had the courage to drop those bombs, its hard to tell how much longer the war would have dragged on and what the outcome might have been. LEAST FAVORITE - this one is a no-brainer - GEORGE W.BUSH. Let's face it, this guy doesn't have the brains to be a dogcatcher, let alone President.
If he's remembered for anything, it won't be for being the "decider," nor will it be for living up to what he said during his campaign, "I'm a uniter, not a divider. " Yeah, right. He's successfully divided this country more than its been divided since the Viet Nam War.
Even his own party is deserting him and most want little to do with him. Why? Let's start with a needless, senseless war which has cost this country close to 4,000 of its best young men and women.....and for what?
Supposedly, the invasion of Iraq was to find those mysterious weapons of mass destruction - none of which existed, so now our troops are playing policeman in a civil war. We had no business going there - the troops should have been sent to Afghanistan to search out Osama bin Laden who perpetrated the attacks on this country on the now infamous 9/11. Then there's the Katrina fiasco where thousands of people had to wait several years to get promised government aid after their homes were destroyed by the hurricane.
Yet, Trent Lott, a Senator from Mississippi received aid almost immediately to rebuild his seaside home - the good old boy network lives. Meanwhile, some people are still waiting for that promised government aid. Let's not forget gas prices.
Bush is a friend to every big oil company going - he's overseen the relaxing of environmental restrictions and has stood by idly while gas prices keep rising, and rising. Exxon reports billions in profits, and the gas prices continue to go up. A very small percentage of that may be related to shutting down off-shore drilling due to Katrina.
Then there's the matter of his selling out to the evangelical Christian Right. Stem cell research which could have helped find and possibly cure diseases - Federal funding vetoed for research because the same stem cells which would be destroyed are "life." They're going to be destroyed anyway - so what's the difference?
It seems like everything Bush has done has been to appease those who "elected" him - the Christian Right (which is anything but right). Lastly, this guy wasn't even elected to his first term. He was appointed thanks to rigged elections in Florida where his brother just happened to be Governor.
Honest? Yeah, everyone who believes that stand on their head and drink a glass of water in that position! Agree or disagree, those are my choices.

My personal favorite is Harry Truman. Naturally I agree with most of his decisions or he wouldn’t be my favorite so that kind of goes without saying. The best thing about HST though was that he was truly a man of the people.
Here was a guy with no college degree who went into politics without any money and came out without any money and actually had to worry about how he was going to support himself. He was the last occupant of the White House who had had to worry about how he was going to pay the phone bill during his adult life and one of the few presidents ever who was never wealthy. He didn’t base his positions on what some economist at Harvard had to say.
He based his decisions on his own experiences and his experiences were the same as most Americans so he really cared and understood what those of us who aren’t wealthy go through. Besides that you have to admire a man who could swear as well as he could, LOL. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ There are so many good candidates for least favorite that this part of the question is going to be tough. To keep my own political leanings out of this I’m going to eliminate the last five occupants of the office from consideration.
My least favorite may be Woodrow Wilson. Given my Irish and German heritage I naturally disagree with his decision to enter WW I or at least to enter it on the side he chose. S bumbling in the aftermath of the war has created problems that we are still dealing with in places like Iraq.

My favorite is Harry Truman. My least favorite is James Buchanan. Harry Truman was an honest, outspoken man.
He said that he thought and let the chips fall where they may. He could get on people's nerves, but he was honest and sincere. He also surprised his critics by doing a good job after FDR's death. No one had any reasonable expectation that he would do as good a job as he did.
Here is a link that will tell you more about him. whitehouse.gov/history/presidents/ht33.html My least favorite is James Buchanan."James Buchanan (2.007 – 2.008) was the fifteenth President of the United States (1857–1861). He was the only President from Pennsylvania and the only President never to marry. As president he was a "doughface" who battled Stephen A. Douglas for control of the Democratic Party. Scholars consistently rank him as one of the two or three worst American presidents.1 As southern states declared their secession in the lead-up to the American Civil War, he held that secession was illegal, but that going to war to stop it was also illegal.
" It is hard to say anything at all good to say about a President who watched the country disintegrate before his very eyes and did nothing substantial--and certainly nothing effective-- to stop the disintegration. That marks him as a loser in my book. http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=92665&rendTypeId=4 If you want to learn more about this ineffectual president go to: http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents/jb15.html Sources: personal opinion and cited above Snow_Leopard's Recommendations Truman Amazon List Price: $22.00 Used from: $4.99 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5 (based on 262 reviews) The Wit & Wisdom of Harry S.

I'd have to say Clinton, at least the first term... ...because the economy was on the upswing, and there was a sense of expanding possibilities for our country. I’d never felt such optimism, at least since the Carter CAMPAIGN. Well, now you know what my political stripe is... It was only later that I figured out how Republican some of his policies really were.
I also have to say that the Lewinsky debacle got far more press than it deserved, and was a smokescreen over some of the more pressing issues...like what Al Quida sp? Was up to, for example. I do think Clinton handled the Lewinsky issue badly by lying...however, I also think plenty of Presidents have had affairs, and it’s never been such a media circus/feeding frenzy before.
I have to admit that trust issues are fundamentally important. I haven’t seen a president I felt I could completely trust, yet. It seems that by the time they get into the office, they are already owned by corporations/lobbies/other rich white men.
I’m only talking about the ones I can remember...from Nixon onward. Sources: experience as a U.S. Citizen .

He was a principaled man who led the country during the gravest crisis it has ever faced, and he did a fantastic job. S role in ridding the country of slavery, an unthinkable institution in this day and age, was also among the grandest things any President has had to do.
He was a great man and this country could use a few more politicians like Abraham Lincoln. Sources: My Opinion .
I'm still in Camelot, I guess.... My choice would be President Kennedy. Maybe it's just the romantic view of it all, as we will never know what he could have accomplished if he lived longer. And the press, if they had had the technology back then, would have discovered all kinds of terrible things about him, I'm sure.
But, he gave the country alot of hope and the encouragement to dream more about a really positive future, something we could sorely use today! *Poppet*'s Recommendations Profiles in Courage Amazon List Price: $19.95 Used from: $9.99 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5 (based on 80 reviews) .
George Washington Video this video tells the reasons and there is no better way to understand why I consider him to be the best US President than by watching the video.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt - he was the right man in the right place at possibly the most dangerous point in the country to that time. Also, from the recordings, he appears to have delivered political speeches that managed an unparalled combo of significance, motivation & actual elegance.
