John McLaughlin is realy a great artist and I am a fan of his too. Who could forget "Saturday night in San Francisco" with Al Dimeola and Paco de Lucia. Also his collaboration with Zakir Hussain produced a masterpiece in the sense that the instruments were talking to each other.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
