Storical Facts s name was James Earl Ray and was an escaped convict. Dr. King had been standing on the balcony of his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968. Ray was charged with the murder of Martin Luther King and he confessed and pleaded guilty.
