The good luck kitty s left raised paw draws in good luck. I have one sitting on a bookshelf whose left paw waves like he is doing a high five, but his battery died (just before I got a speeding ticket. Hmmm.

Maybe I should replace that battery. ) (This one's image is reversed left-to-right. Perhaps that makes him a bad-luck kitty.) Sources: fengshuicrazy.com/business-wealth/attrac... .

Maneki Neko The lucky Beckoning Cat. According to legend, a Japanese nobleman was walking down a path and spotted a cat that seemed to be beckoning him over (in Asia, beckoning is more commonly done with the palm down, fingers curling towards the self, rather than palm up crooking a finger in Western style). The nobleman walked over to the cat, then realized that he had been about to walk into a trap before the cat beckoned him away.

The Maneki Neko became a symbol of good luck, and is often seen in restaurants and shops, where it is supposed to draw customers and wealth. I don't if Maneki Neko is really lucky, but it is awfully cute.

It looks like the beckoning cat--Maneki Neko--a common Japanese symbol of good luck! There’s actually an article in Wikipedia about this well-known sculpture. (See below.) Usually made of ceramic or porcelain, they are often for sale in gift or novelty stores.

Store keepers and restaurant owners often keep them in their windows to welcome customers and to bring good fortune. I had one in my window when I had a shop. If nothing else, it put people in a good mood and made them smile.

From Wikipedia: Maneki Neko From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Maneki Neko is often used as a piggy bank. The Maneki Neko (?, literally "Beckoning Cat"; also known as Welcoming Cat, Lucky Cat, Money cat or Fortune Cat) is a common Japanese sculpture, often made of porcelain or ceramic, which is believed to bring good luck to the owner. The sculpture depicts a cat beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed in stores, restaurants, pachinko parlors, and other businesses.

A raised right paw supposedly attracts money, while a raised left paw attracts customers. Maneki Neko come in different colors, styles, and degrees of ornateness. In addition to sculptures, Maneki Neko can be found as keychains, piggy banks, air fresheners, and miscellaneous ornaments.1 The cat breed represented in the sculpture is generally a Japanese Bobtail.
