Who shares a bank account w/ their spouse and who has seperate accounts from their spouse?

My husband gives me his check and I put it in the account. The account is under my name and I do the bills. I have come across some couples who have sepeate accounts because of trust and finance issues.

We have seperate accounts because it was easier. My husbands direct deposit was already set up at his bank, and when we got married and I started working, I found a different bank to set up with. He doesn't have a branch near us, so it's easier just to leave his where he has it than to close it and combine.

Works fine for us because I also had his name added to my account so he could do banking nearby. We pay different bills from each account, and it works ok for us. I guess it's a personal preference; for us, it was merely for convenience..

It wasn't easy for me to consolidate into one account after we got married, but marriage is about trust and keeping two accounts when you always need to transfer funds between them was too cumbersome. If you can't really trust your spouse, then replace him/her with somebody you can trust. In any case, having only one name on an account can have it's problems like the inability of the one who's name is not on the account to perform most transactions. In our home, I do most of the bookkeeping.

I had both A shared account for the family bills and a separate account for my bills. This was mostly due to my spouse's inability to make good financial judgements and poor credit, and I didn't want that aspect to affect my credit.

Both My wife and I have separate checking accounts and we each keep track of our own money. But we also have one joint checking account. Since they are all available on line, but the only one we can both see is the joint account, we can transfer money back and forth without poking around in the other's records.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
