Who thought Earth was the center of the universe?

Gallipoli, a famous astronomer discovered that the sun was in the middle of oursolar system and all the other planets orbited it. This act nearly found himself in jail. The ones who doubted thought the Earth was the center of the universe.It was not any specific person that doubted Gallipoli but a large number.
