Yep. That's the Aussie way. We tend towards 'ai' instead of 'a'.
I'm not very much into phonetics. You should've posted this Q in the Languages section. Well, atleast we don't imitate those Americans like most people do.

Its their style and ascent(though you say its not). You can understand an Indian if he speaking quickly in english bcoz you can catch the ascent better and our style matches but their ascent. I've spoken to some Aussie friends when they were here I had difficulty at first but gradually I was able to understand what they want to convey.
Europeans also talk bit slower as in many of those countries English is not first language. The most difficult one to get is the American ascent,they just run away with words.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
