Why are some Christian groups warn against reading Harry Potter books?

The entire Harry Potter series is based on witchcraft. Since The Bible strictly forbids any type of sorcery or witchcraft as it is an abomination unto God; according to Christian doctrine. I believe fundamentalist Christians have the fear that if children are allowed to read the J.

K Rowling books the door to the occult is opened. I suppose the worry is that once that door is opened they become deeper and deeper involved in Pagan or non-Christian practices. A phrase I have both seen and heard frequently is, "Harry Potter makes evil look innocent."

The general idea is Harry Potter, being a children's story, is incredibly exciting to a child who is already full of imagination. Since the lure of magic, fairies and everything else that goes along with the world of Harry Potter is so powerful, it's easy to see how a child could be drawn in. Christian fundamentalists see no difference in Harry Potter and a purely Satanic ritual - both are the Devil and an open invitation to lead youth down the path that is wide and filled with destruction. My personal opinion; though I know you didn't ask for it, is Harry Potter is a book - a wonderful book filled with magic and excitement.

Good always triumphs evil in the end and I believe a child is more likely to take that away from the books than to break out a Ouija Board and call all his or her friends over for a evocation of a dark lord. Remember being a child and being innocent enough to believe in possibilities. Not the possibility that the stock market would recovery, but true endless possibilities of dragons, castles, magic and elves.

Taking that innocent imagination and excitement from a child is the only evil I can see in this situation.

I love the movies and books myself of Harry Potter and so do my children. Yet, many Christians have told me that the Bible teaches against Witchcraft and Sorcery of any kind, even fantasy books for children. In Duet 18: 10-14, God warns his children not to practice witchcraft, because it is considered an abomination before him.

I don’t think these books are dangerous, because as a parent you can teach your child about fantasy and reality. However, some Christian groups are against the publication of this type of book for children. Here is an article that my pastor sent me awhile back.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
