Many never will, and will take the text out of it's 1st century Jewish context, and pretend the text means something else. They want Christianity to be true, because they believe they and their loved ones will go to heaven. The Old Testament promised the end of the world would occur several times, and each time it failed they just moved the date on.
The book of Daniel was such a case, written between 167 and 164 BC, it predicted the end of the world a few years later. When that did not occur, they 'recalculated' and came up with the first century AD. About the same time as Daniel was written, the Essenes left Jerusalem and set up their living quarter by the Dead Sea.
According to their writings, the Dead Sea scrolls, they too expected an imminent end of the world, with two messiahs. And this is what we see from Josephus, several attempts to kick off the end of the world by several messiahs trying to emulate the original Joshua. The name Jesus is just another form of Joshua.
The Samaritan” at Mount Gerizim, soon after crossing the Jordan to assemble and consecrate the nation of Israel. Just like Jesus/Joshua. Theudas” who said he would part the Jordan, just as the first Jesus/Joshua did before crossing to create the nation of Israel.
The Egyptian” preached from the Mount of Olives and claimed he’d fell the walls of Jerusalem just like the walls of Jericho, just like the first Jesus/Joshua did in his first battle after crossing the Jordan. And in the gospels, we have a Jesus/Joshua who crossed the Jordan, and preached at the Mount of Olives (with Mount Gerizim in the gospel of John). And so in the first century AD, Christianity (along with other Jewish sects) developed, with an expectation of an imminent end of the world.
When that failed, they wrote apologetic fake epistles, like 2 Peter to explain why the end of the world had failed to materialize yet again. And so it goes on, for almost 3,000 years now. Because it's hard to admit you are wrong when such a delusion has hold of your whole life.
All the powers of Evil are clamouring for supremacy in our Day. What more proof do we require than both Old and New testaments giving graphic descriptions of End times akin to Jihadic and Anti-Christ forces unleashed in the Holy Land? In the face of tens of thousands of slaughtered and pilloried Christian families today, Jesus resurrection power shared with his people today is a witness to Gods prophetic ministry. So too is the love and forgiveness of His suffering servants .
God bless your peace!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
