Why can't dogs eat chocolate? Can they eat white chocolate?

Chocolate is severely toxic to dogs because it contains theobromine. This is a stimulant that effects the nervous system and heart muscle, as well as increasing the frequency of urination. Dogs can't metabolize theobromine as effectively as humans.

This allows it to build up in their system until it reaches toxic levels of concentration. This may lead to a variety of health problems including death due to cardiac arrest. & no they cant eat white chocolate bc it still contains theobromine.

Chocolate is toxic to dogs, it contains theobromine which is present in cocoa beans. White chocolate is not really chocolate but it does contain theobromine but only 1mg per ounce, so it would take 250 pounds of white chocolate to poison a 20 pound dog.

Dogs can't eat chocolate because if they do, they may eventually end up with restlessness, hyperactivity, muscle twitching, increased urination and/or excessive panting. White chocolate is still chocolate. Just don't feed your dog with chocolate.

Problem solved.

Its poisonous to them and no I don't think they can.

wiki.answers.com/Q/What_happens_w… This link explains what happens when a dog eats chocolate. Please note that while white chocolate is the least harmful, that it can still cause harm if in high enough amount. Best not to give any to a dog.

You never know what their reaction will be as all dogs are different and different each time.

There is a chemical in chocolate called theobromine that dogs cannot metabolize and therefore is toxic to them. The darker the chocolate the more cocoa it contains, therefore the more theobromine. White chocolate does contain some traces of theobromine, but it is highly unlikely there is enough to make them sick.

I would not recommend feeding it to them anyway as there is still some theobromine in it and it is just not good for them anyway.

You have gotten several good answers about why chocolate is toxic to dogs. To answer your 2nd question, Can they eat white chocolate? They can but it contains too much sugar which is unhealthy for them so there is no good reason to give a dog white chocolate.

If you want to give a dog a treat, give it a nice meaty raw bone. S teeth and tummy will thank you.

Its poisonous to dogs and giving them a little bit of white chocolate probably won't hurt them x.
