All the strongest economies in the world other than the USA have public health care. The USA in this respect aligns with most third-world countries.
The universal health care was instituted during times of economic surpluses in those countries so the taxation load was minimal. Only certain health problems are covered, not all. There are queues, or waiting times for procedures.
The average tax load of the average citizen is around 35% in overt taxes and another 20 % in hidden taxes for a total of around 55%. There is a cost to "free" things. Certainly the US can do the same but remember that the timing is not very good right now.
There is a global recession, It takes money to set up the infrastructure for the service. The government can start collecting extra taxation for a few years to build up the financial "rock" for this service to stand on. The health care in those 2 countries were started in the 60's or 70's.
Private hospitals and health facilities were simply taken over and commandeered by the government. How this is made palatable to the people will be a problem, especially the building up of money I suggest to wait until better times.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
