Alexander Hamilton was known for being on a power trip. He was an imperialist at heart. He wanted the young nations to have a strong federal government.
S party had already passed the Alien and Sedition Acts, which made criticism of the government and its actions illegal. This began paving the way for them to do whatever they wanted and not be held accountable, including war. The Kentucky resolution stood in opposition to this policy.
I suspect he wanted to go to war against the Spanish territories as a way to use the military to force compliance. He would gain land and send a message to States like Kentucky which took stands opposed to his policy. It was a way of showing them what would happen to them if they continued opposing federal policies, such as the Alien and Sedition Acts.
He had already talked Washington into doing this with the Whiskey rebellion where troops were used to enforce taxes on a select industry. By using troops to enforce tax laws, the new government began acting like their British overlords which they recently overthrew. Hamilton needed military force to ensure total compliance with the Alien and Sedition Acts.
He masterminded the use of force with the Whiskey Rebellion and now he was going to repeat the pattern, although in a roundabout manner. He hated state sovereignty and wanted to remove it. The fact that Kentucky and Tennessee stood firmly opposed to the Sedition Act was a threat to federal power. It was Hamilton that began talking about the 'implied powers' within the Constitution.
He hated the restraints on federal power that came with strict interpretation of the Constitution. This crisis or what is known as the "Quasi War" gave him an opportunity to expand federal power. With General George Washington being ill, Hamilton had a free hand to use military force to enforce his will on the people, including those State opposing federal policies.
By invading Spanish territories, he would have an excuse to intimidate those States. At that time, Adams was providing weapons, supplies and naval support to Toussant in his efforts at overthrowing the French control in the Caribbean.By financing the rebels, he was able to have a war without going to war. I suspect that Hamilton also took advantage of the situation and found a kindred spirit in President Adams.
Hamilton just went about things in a different way. This is just an educated guess as to what Hamilton's motivation may have been.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
