The Republicans have owned the White House so much in recent decades that they've come to see it as THEIR house. When a Democrat gets elected president, they feel a great injustice has been done, that they have been robbed of their property. Their strategy is to go into a 4-year-long (or 8 year long) temper tantrum.
They refuse to cooperate with a Democratic president, even for things they want themselves, because that only hands him a victory and validates his presidency. Instead they just reflexively oppose anything he says or does or wants. This is nothing new.
They treated Clinton the same way. And Carter. They treated them both as illegitimate presidents.
They know that when a Democrat is president, if anything good is achieved through bipartisan cooperation, the president gets most of the credit. Like Clinton, I thought Obama gave too much away to the Repubs in his attempt to get the economy moving, reduce deficits, etc. But more recently I think he's gotten a clue. Now his strategy is to be the populist, to propose ideas that are very popular with the American People, and watch the Republicans in Congress bluster posture and shoot them down.
Like his tax cut for the middle class, or the extension of unemployment benefits. Let the Republicans slit their own throats.
Maybe Republicans can't deny Obama a second term as President, but The American People can,and will on November 6, 2012. NOBAMA in 2012!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
