My first DVD player was a Toshiba. When it quit, I bought a Memorex, which was on sale cheap. Now it has stopped also.
It does not make sense to me that if you do not use it for a month or two, it refuses to recognize that you have a DVD in it! It reminds me of the cat my X and I had--I went away to school for 5 weeks and when I got home the cat ignored me. One difference--the cat eventually came back around.

DVD players quit working I've previously written about How to edit AVCHD footage on Mac OSX, at the time of writing that article there weren't many options for editing AVCHD footage on either Mac OSX or Windows operating systems. VoltaicHD is a great application that helped Mac OSX users in particular because at that time there was no way of editing AVCHD on Mac at all. Many Mac users had purchased AVCHD cameras and were frustrated by the complete lack of software available for editing AVCHD on Mac and even Windows users had to wait quite a few months before Sony released a version of their Vegas software that supported AVCHD.
Since then though, there are quite a few options for Mac users: Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Express offered mid to high end products for the Mac platform. Also Apple's own iMovie software had a complete revamp and amongst many new features was direct support for AVCHD based cameras, a perfect budget solution as the software was included free with any new Mac or as part of Apple's iLife suite for about £55 / $79. However for Windows users, despite the availability of software like Sony Vegas, many people wanted a way to edit AVCHD without having to buy editing software that cost as much (or more!) than they spent on their cameras in the first place!
There was no easy way to do this on a low budget, you could find articles on the web with instructions on how to use various applications or utilities to convert the AVCHD files into various formats, but nothing simple that would allow non-technical users to edit AVCHD footage. But now there is an easy solution. Sources: http://askville.amazon.com/Budget-AVCHD-editing-Windows-PC-Movie-Maker/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=29322622 .

Is there any .......... I'm having serious and very annoying trouble with my sound. My sound doesn't make sound. I have a Windows Vista, the other day I reinstalled it and, since then my sound button at the corner of my screen next too the clock has had a little red "x" on it.
It saids I don't have any audio devices installed. In "Hardware and Sound" in control panel it saids it's working fine. I have SigmaTel gh Definition Audio CODEC for sound.
I hope this isn't myIs this a desktop or laptop? Do you have your sound on a seperate card installed on the computer or is it attatched to the motherboard? Usually if it is attatched to the motherboard the sound ports will be beside your monitor, keyboard, mouse port.
Make sure if the sound is a seperate card that it is pushed all the way into the slot into the motherboard. If it not fully seated this will also cause this problem. You can do a manual scan for hardware changes in device manager by going to Computer-right click, select manage, then right click sound and select scan for hardware changes.
I am not sure but it could be your sound device driver. You may need to install the device driver for the sound card. This is a disk that come with the card or with the computer if the sound card was already an installed component.
If you can't find the disk you can go to the Sound card manufacturers web site and look for the device driver and download it. After the download is complete you will need to do a restart and your sound should then work. After the reinstallation of Vista you need to install all additional drivers for other hardware.
The Operating System (Vista)holds many drivers itself wich is how other components are working such as your mouse, monitor, video card, etc. But not always, which is why you need to go to the manufacturers web site and download it. I hope this helps. Sources: http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-19131-sound-won-t-work-at-all .
A laser and a lens system to focus in on the bumps and read them - The light from this laser has.... A DVD player is very similar to a CD player. It has a laser assembly that shines the laser beam onto the surface of the disc to read the pattern of bumps (see How CDs Work for details). The DVD player decodes the MPEG-2 encoded movie, turning it into a standard composite video signal (see How Television Works for details).
The player also decodes the audio stream and sends it to a Dolby decoder, where it is amplified and sent to the speakers. The DVD player has the job of finding and reading the data stored as bumps on the DVD. Considering how small the bumps are, the DVD player has to be an exceptionally precise piece of equipment.
The drive consists of three fundamental components: A drive motor to spin the disc - The drive motor is precisely controlled to rotate between 200 and 500 rpm, depending on which track is being read. A laser and a lens system to focus in on the bumps and read them - The light from this laser has a smaller wavelength (640 nanometers) than the light from the laser in a CD player (780 nanometers), which allows the DVD laser to focus on the smaller DVD pits. A tracking mechanism that can move the laser assembly so the laser beam can follow the spiral track - The tracking system has to be able to move the laser at micron resolutions.
Inside the DVD player, there is a good bit of computer technology involved in forming the data into understandable data blocks, and sending them either to the DAC, in the case of audio or video data, or directly to another component in digital format, in the case of digital video or data. The fundamental job of the DVD player is to focus the laser on the track of bumps. The laser can focus either on the semi-transparent reflective material behind the closest layer, or, in the case of a double-layer disc, through this layer and onto the reflective material behind the inner layer.
The laser beam passes through the polycarbonate layer, bounces off the reflective layer behind it and hits an opto-electronic device, which detects changes in light. The bumps reflect light differently than the "lands," the flat areas of the disc, and the opto-electronic sensor detects that change in reflectivity. The electronics in the drive interpret the changes in reflectivity in order to read the bits that make up the bytes.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
