Why do people want to run away from a "bore" and are afraid of boredom?

I agree with what Phil said. I'd like to add that another undersirable part of boredom is if you are stuck doing a boring activity, then it's extremely annoying because you think about all the other interesting things you could be doing during that time instead. E.g.

If you are waiting for a bus to arrive which is running late, or if you are stuck talking to someone boring, you are thinking about other fun things you could be doing in that time instead (including doing nothing - but in a more comfortable setting, like at home). The other part of boredom is that time seems to pass very slowly, so it makes it seem even more boring.

By definition, being bored is not a state of being that is desirable. I am perfectly comfortable with doing absolutely nothing for a few hours and would not describe myself as being bored in those circumstances. One of my children will have many options of things to do on a Saturday morning but insist that they are bored; the term is used to specifically describe an undesirable human condition.

"Only boring people are bored" - I entertain myself. Always - as a side effect I entertain others. They cannot necessarily return the favourbut I don't depend on it.

In my opion being boerd isnt always a bad thing I think that people fear it the same way they fear quite time its hard to be put in a place where we have time to get to know ourselves better fear of being boerd to me is a symptom of something much deeper mabey even meaning that you are not comfortable with yourself because if you fear being put in a place where your mind can wonder then you need to stop and examin your thoughts as to what it is you realy fear its healthy to take time out of your day and focus on yourself to get to know yourself better its impotant for us to reflect on our feelings so that we can learn who we are and what we are affraide of for most of however this is scary and I think that we purposely stay busy to avoide judging ourselves wich in return will hurt our ego.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
