Why do Republicans hate taxes? Why do they promote tax cuts as an elixir to cure all the ills of the economy?

President Ronald Reagan in 1982 passed the largest peacetime tax increase in American history: the Tax Equity and and Responsibility Act, which raised $37.5 billion dollars, or 1% of gross domestic product(GDP), per year. He also signed a $3.3 billion gasoline-tax increase. The next year he signed another whopping tax hike designed to save Social Security.

So, my question is this: If the hero of the Republican party saw the necessity to impose taxes, why didn't George Bush Jr. do the same at the outset of the Iraq and Afghanistan war instead of borrowing the money from aboard and putting this nation in hock to China? Three Reasons 1) Just as Democrat politicians understand that promising free benefits gets votes, Republican politicians understand that promising to cut taxes gets votes. 2) Some Republicans understand that every dollar of tax money is a dollar that the earner cannot spend on his own priorities. They also do not believe that government will produce better results with the money than the original owner would have produced.3) Some Republicans used to believe (before Reagan) that to cut taxes would result in cutting the size of government.

Cutting taxes was actually a proxy vote to reduce the size of government. However, I think most have given up this hope given the power of the USG to borrow and create money in the absence of tax receitps..

" I would not go that FAR! True conservatives, especially, non-politicians, may HATE taxes, yet Republicans as a group of them, many love taxes almost as much as Democrats do, some few more conservative ones may dislike taxes but "hate" I do not know if that word could be applied even to Reagan. Now the difference between Republicans and Democrats is more like this.

RHINOS love taxes! Truly Conservative Republicans dislike taxes. Most Democrats love taxes more than Republican do, even more than the RHINOS!

Many Democrats now are so insanely addicted to raising taxes that they cannot help themselves ... SPEND, SPEND, SPEND we can Make our own money If we stop SPENDING, it won't be funny We got to keep SPENDING, who cares if money's gone! SPENDING, SPENDING, SPENDING it can't be WRONG! SPEND, SPEND, SPENDing, as if money's unending!

Its our one policy, ... there's no bending! Spending is an ADDICTION to many Democrats and that is the PROBLEM!.

They are hypocrites Republicans like taxes when it makes THEM richer - when it subsidizes corporations and development. Republicans hate taxes when the taxes are to support the common man; we the people are supposed to fend for ourselves. Their theory - which has proven to be a failure over and over again - is that if the companies do well, then employees will do well.

That was most recently known as 'tickle down economics' and it was a sham. A completel failure. But the rich got richer.

Underneath all of this is a real loathing of government. Republicans dislike regulation and a government presence, because it keeps controls on them. By not allowing them to cheat and steal from the rest of us, the government is a threat (to them) and a benefit to the rest of us.

Smaller government means less oversight. Less oversight means free rein for thieves. Just look at the Bush years for dozens of examples.

They say it is 'constitutional history' to have a small government. Don't believe it. Like everything else, it is all about MONEY and very little about philosophy..

Repugnants, do not want tax cuts. Most taxes are paid by what we used to call...the "middle class" which, after 8 years of repuganat mismanagement is now the A-Mur-A-Kin Peasant Class. They want tax cuts for their owners, the top 2 % of the nation who own most repugnant politicians.

If you are rich enough...you pay little taxes but you do have to…buy…repugnants. When the Dems, degraded as they may be, try to collect a few dollars from the top 2 %, the repugnants scream communism and socialism, they don't actually know the difference so they use both terms synonymously. They don’t read much.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
