Why do they assume ...?' As an unconscious defense mechanism against feeling inferior. "What do they do if ...?" Look for some trivial, nit-picking reason for being able to rationalize to themselves that the other person is not so smart after all. (Such as, that the other person is a yellow dog -- forgetting that, on the InterNet, no one can tell that you are a dog, if you keep your WebCam switched off.) .
We all know that humans are egotistical, pride being the primary motivation why a human does anything. Why do so many humans choose education as the thing to be proud of? Be proud of being considerate, or kind, or generous, or encouraging?
Doesn't happen. I've read a number of people even here on Askville who are very proud of being educated and are outright scornful--on educational levels--of those who disagree with them. The weird thing about human beings is exactly feeling pride in supposed education and NOT shame at feeling scorn for a fellow human being.
The education that omits that characteristic is useless. But you're correct, , in that many merely assume they are more educated but never actually know either way. The answer to that one is simply that they must assume they are more "educated.
" If they are less "educated," they're likely wrong (and we can't have that, oh no, not at all, never. ) .
