Most of you are missing the point. Actually a FEW points. First its our Constitutional right to enjoy our religion "AS IT IS".
As a USArmy vet, I took an oath to defend that Constitution. I gave that oath to the Christian God, on the Christian Bible. I still consider that oath BINDING.
Iif I can honor their God, They can dammm well HONOR mine. Second, just in case ALL YOU GOOD PAGANS forgot, BELTANE WAS A SATURDAY THIS YEAR. Last time I checked, Saturday is a WEEKEND.
If the Christians don't have to move CHRISTMAS every year, I sure as hell aint gonna move my holidays to satisfy some jerk of a boss. Third, The USGovernment, the VA, and the New jersey school system wave ALL conceded that Wicca is really a valid religion. The USGovt has added Pagan Clergy to the military.
Many jails now have Pagan "Charlies"....thats a CHAPLAIN. A US military base has just added a new Pagan Chapel. The VA has added the Pentacle to Sgt Pat Stewarts memorial and the list of "APPROVED SYMBOLS".
The NJ school system has added 8 Wiccan/Pagan holidays to their "approved list". Tell that idiot to "get with the times"....then sue him for RELIGOUS DISCRIMINATION. In some areas that can be classified as a "HATE CRIME", punishable by PRISON.
If the boss specifically denied your friend the day off because of her religion, she could get in trouble, but if there was another reason, her boss had every right to deny her the day off. If her boss will allow members of other religions to take off religious holidays the same number of days in advance, her boss is being discriminatory, and can be sued. However, if her boss denies other people to take the day off for their religious holidays, it sucks, but she has every right to deny it to your friend, and in fact MUST deny your friend the day off.
Remember that if your friend does want to sue her boss for discrimination, she's going to need some proof that she was treated unfairly based on her religion. I also must add that within Wicca, there's no dogma to say that you HAVE to celebrate the holidays on specific days. In fact, many traditions have different days for the Sabbats.
The only reason the date would matter would be if there was a scheduled coven meeting that day, which only affects coven members, or if your friends were throwing a party on the actual day of the Sabbat that couldn't be rescheduled. I've celebrated many a Sabbat late. The God and Goddess understand when something prevents you from celebrating.
Besides, couldn't she celebrate when she got out of work? Our religion does not require us to rest on the Sabbat. It's perfectly acceptable to work on the Sabbat.
Venus Bless.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
