Unfortunately there have always been people who have ignored the spiritual heart of a religion and instead just engaged with it in a superficial way. This leads to them using the religion to advance themselves, rather than to help others which is the true message of all major religions. It's a shame, but I guess it is the price of free will....
Sometimes, it's because this is America, and moral competition/success is closely related to economic competition/success...and this is believed by both the people who give money and evangelists who accept it. Sometimes, it's because evangelists don't really believe what they are saying but find it makes money...in this case, they see the people who give money as their dupes. Sometimes, people want to preach Christ full-time, but need food and shelter to stay alive and do so.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
