Why do the majority of black people in the USA have an "us" and "them" mentality?

Blacks act like they all live on one side of the country and "whites" live on the other. Why the need to approach life that way? Why can't we all just be part of the human community?

I think they learned it from the white folks...

It's tribalism.........and all groups practice it to some degree. But if you get to know more black Americans, you will recognize they are just as stratified as white Americans. The strata are educational / cultural / income-based.It's not a single community, although some of the so-called 'black leaders' present this as a fact.....but it's not fact, it's their fiction.

Multi-millionaires who have accumulated great fortunes in business (Clarence Otis CEO of Darden Restaurants Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Longhorn Steaks, others; Richard Parsons of Time-Warner and Citigroup fame http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1873165,00.html) and many, many others who have become heads of major American corporations don't need the so-called 'black leaders'. Those 'leaders' need people who view themselves as victims. Those who are actually leading the way, men and women who own / operate / run successful businesses, don't view themselves as victims.

But you won't hear about the successful men and women who are actually leading the say.........unless you read the Wall Street Journal, where the color of interest is green - the color of money. You might hear about some of these men and women on CNBC......when their companies make lots of money.........I can also recommend Thomas Sowell, one of the smartest people in the US if not the world.......you can read his columns at Townhall.com or through The Washington Post.Asp.

There are many who believe slavery began with Europeans raiding parts of Africa for slaves, and many who seem to believe racism began with the creation of these United States. This view of racism seems to see only black and white. For those who believe this way, explain ancient history to us, please.

Explain North African Arabs and Muslims enslaving black Africans; explain Chinese enslaving other Orientals. The student of slavery and/or racism does not begin with studying the era that began in 1600 or so. The real student of racism and/or slavery begins with recorded time.........more than 2000 years ago.

You are making a lot of assumptions here that are borderline offensive. The whites started the us vs them mentality, long ago. However, I will answer your question.

The reason black people feel and act the way that you are assuming they do (your question leads me to believe you have had little or no interaction with blacks) is that this is the lifestyle/role/mindset that whites have forced upon them. That have been forced by white people into a closed society. White people denied them the same rights, privileges, and even respect that whites demand for themselves.

If you hade been told you were not as good or worthy as another skin color - would you want to interact with them? Why do you feel like they should now want to fall all over themselves to conform to a certain standard in order to be a part of what you consider "the human community"? And don't even dare to say that racism doesn't exist, in this day an age.

This questions shows that it does.!. )Why do they feel a closeness to one another just because they all have a dark skin tone? How do you know they do?

Are you stating that all black people feel like they are a family?2. )Why are all blacks known as being part of the "black community"?Duh.3. )Blacks act like they all live on one side of the country and "whites" live on the other.

Really? You know how every single black on the face of the planet acts? Interesting.4.

)Why the need to approach life that way? Because that is how whites have forced them to.5. )Why can't we all just be part of the human community?

We are. Where have you been? Are you stating that just because blacks do not want to be buddy buddy with whites that they are not human?

You cannot be this ignorant, with your *wide eyed* innocent questions that are offensive and flame starters. You make sweeping generalizations that are not true, about people you do not know. No wonder people have left in droves.

I see questions like this and I cringe when I think of the black users here reading this stuff. It's ignorant and embarassing, and is the reason that blacks don't want to be around you.

Blaming whites for all their problems is garbage and a HUGE cop out. White guilt needs to end. The civil rights movement had a huge positive impact on blacks and their quality of life is at the level of whites.

Any black person younger than 45 born in the US has no idea of the struggle their ancestors went through. Sure, there are a few deranged racist freaks out there that do horrible things but as a whole I would say that more white people defend blacks than blacks defend themselves. Walk into the middle of a room with only white people and tell a joke that uses the word "ni**er" and see the shock and disgust on their faces.

They will all say that it was uncalled for and all will be offended. There are white trash neighborhoods just like there are black ghetto neighborhoods. It is time for blacks to stop playing the victim and just move on and accept that sure, their ancestors were treated horribly but realize that NOW, they never had to experience it and never will have to experience itI also NEVER stated that all blacks are like this.

I said the MAJORITY. I base that opinion on videos I've seen, news stories, personal interactions and other factors. Flip86 15 days ago .

I suggest you reread your question. You are now denying saying things that are right there for all to see. As for the rest of your comment - meh.

If you really think that racism is not alive and well, you are seriously delusional.

Racism is alive I never denied that. But in the USA slavery, segregation and lynch mobs are all a thing of the past. I realize I used the term "all blacks".

It was used in the context that Black leaders like Sharpton, Jackson say those very things and keep the "us" vs "them" thing going. To deny that the majority of blacks do this is being as ignorant as you claim me to be. Flip86 15 days ago .

Perhaps it's due to a subconscious anxiety - a defensive reflex - they still carry in their psyche because of all the injustices that were done to them in the past. It takes time, probably generations, for these influences to be put in the past. Let's hope everybody can live more in harmony and accept one another as equal citizens of a nation.

We might even become "world citizens". It isn't so hard to do whatever we look like. Anyway, Paul Robeson is still one of my heroes!

A great man. youtu.be/U3syulBjkng" rel="nofollow">youtu.be/U3syulBjkng be/U3syulBjkng.

Maybe from the onset of slavery, but it just never went away. Too many people hate blacks, too many blacks hate whites. So many assumptions.

Everybody has some kind of "I'm better than the other guy" mentality. Color, religion, politics, SPORTS, etc. Just a fact of life.

I've never seen such a compendium of stereotypes in one place. Thanks for letting us know where you stand about things.

Yeah yeah yeah blah blah. You people on this site would rather insult others than have an actual response on things. Stereotypes are based in fact.

I never said ALL blacks are like this. I said the MAJORITY. Also, you have NO IDEA how I stand on things.

It just makes me wonder what other stereotypes about other ethnic and racial groups you believe.

The majority of what I have experienced has brought me to this conclusion. It has nothing to do with me trying to belittle anybody or start a racist flame war. I just wanted to understand why this seems to be(for the most part by my experience)the norm.

Flip86 15 days ago .

I didn't ask the question. But do you know what a statistically invalid sample is? It's the majority of what you have experienced.

And no one has flamed you.

You may not have flamed me but you are trying to act as if you are morally superior to me. You're not. Flip86 15 days ago .

It sounds like you have some issues that you need to deal with if you can make sweeping generalizations and then get defensive about them. I'm out.

One last thing. I asked this same question on another site and was not struck with the amount of hatred and foulness that this site seems so keen on dishing out. I actually had black people agreeing with most of the things that I said.

We can't even discuss racial issues without being deemed racist or told we are stereotyping. Flip86 15 days ago .

So a bunch of random people on the internet, who you could not identify, validated your opinions. That's really scientific. No one here called you a racist.

And you are stereotyping.

We are. Visuals just allow for division. The 'myth' in the 'black community' is that 'white people' are united in an 'us' and 'them' scenario ... truth is nobody is 100% united and we are all just human.Com/books4you.

In discussions of computer security, people tend to focus on technological issues. However, other issues such as employ.

I'm looking for a book that compared the USA & other western countries on many critical issues--with great cartoons!

I am living out of u.s.a. And im not qualified for magazine subscriptions. I was wondering if I could order back issues?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
