Why do we get so Fanatic over politics and religion?

We take our positions, and refuse to accept any other points of view,no matter what it may be,right, wrong or down the middle. Asked by Squeeky-changes-suck 18 months ago Similar questions: Fanatic politics religion Science > Social Science.

Passion, sheer passion It always seems that, in both politics and religion...people are totally passionate about their beliefs and views. They KNOW they're right...and they will fight to the death to prove it. Either topic could be discussed 'til dooms day' and no middle ground would be found.

Tempers flair...arguements evolve...and the discussions get downright dirty and personal. Personally, I like to hear all points of view...it's interesting to hear their 'logic'...but you'll seldom find me involved in one of those discussions.

Most people don't want to go there......... or there is the possiblity that we (collective) are right and everyone who disagrees is wrong! LOL! ;~P Sources: IMHO .

Because both religions and politics are personal choices that involve one's investment of one's whole life. Thus, one who disagrees with either of these choices is saying that, even in a decision that is so important that one's entire life is involved, that person is unable to make a thoughtful and reasoned choice. Now, that is almost always true--almost always a political or religious choice is made based on emotion, not reasoned-out facts.

But to even imply this to another is to insult that person by implying that person doesn't know how to choose for self. And a lot of time it includes the parents being insulted as well.

Opinions People have their opinions and it's okay with me as long as they don't try to change mine.

1 Not me, Mr. Squeeky. I have no problem accepting someone else's POV. Thing is, the people who are not like me, sure make Askville more exciting.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
