The U.S. Army is the primary land fighting force of the U.S. It numbers well over a million strong and wins war by overwhelming force. All members are soldiers. The U.S. Marine Corps numbers around a quarter million, it is a subdivision of the Department of the Navy and they specialize in sea to ground attack.

As a practical matter though, they now do the same stuff as the Army leading to some calls for their replacement. All me,bears are Marines. Both services have "foot soldier" infantry that are now pretty much exactly the same thing day to day.
