Why don't Jehovas Witnesses celebrate birthdays?

It appears that some people 2000 years ago celebrated birthdays, or at least made note of them, but others didn't. "The Pharoah's birthday" is mentioned in Genesis (in the story of Joseph), probably written in the 5th or 6th century BCE. Whether or not there was a party is not stated.

Ancient pagans were interested in their dates (and hours and minutes) of birth because it was important to casting their horoscopes (that is, dvining the future by the positions of stars and planets). That doesn't mean they all had birthday parties, but they wanted to know the date and time of their birth (and those of their friends and enemies). Because of the connection between birthdays and astrology (which was in turn connected with pagan rituals), ancient Jews did not celebrate birthdays, and many early Christians also declined to observe birthdays.

Even now, birthday celebrations are not by any means a universal practice. East Asians traditionally do not celebrate birthdays, but count themselves one year older at each Lunar New Year (in late January or February). In very recent times, some Asians have adopted Western birthday customs, but many still follow their older customs.

Yes, birthdays are pagan in origin - early Christians were unsure whether to adopt them which is why certain branches today (such as JWs) don't. Romans, Egyptians, ancient Jews, Greeks, they all celebrated birthdays. Earlier than that we have too little information.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
